    This brilliant hotel is a huge attraction. The town is full of wine shops owned by the top local vintners. The views of the vineyards are special. Strangely rather a lot of the restaurants were shut on a Tuesday and Wednesday in July. Are they making so much that they don't want the business?

    Sancerre is an interesting medieval town on a hill and is certainly good for a short stay, or longer if you intend to do a lot of activities in the area. The little village of Bue about 3 km away is something to behold with many vineyards on hill-slopes and on flat ground. There are many eateries in Sancerre, a bit pricey but you come to expect that for it's touristique location. English is quite well-spoken here by the servers.

    The town was very pretty and pleasant for a stroll. Most restaurants are around the square. There is a chateau which we did not have time to visit, but had an art exhibition and Friday evening events in season which I think included a dinner.

    Sancerre is a beautiful old hilltop visage. It is pleasantly located allowing day trips to surrounding medieval villages and small cities such as Gion, Bourges, and Auxerre. I strongly recommend taking these day trips. The old cobblestone streets and equally ancient homes and buildings offer wonderful photo ops. I also recommend a drive out into the vineyards. Regarding “getting about in Sancerre,”. Many of the streets are quite steep, so be willing to take your time and enjoy the environment.

    We only had an overnight stop in Sancerre.

    We only had an overnight stop in Sancerre. It was a shame as I would like to spend more time exploring the area. Sancerre is a lovely little town and worth a wander about. Great wines and nice people. Like many such towns, it does suffer from it's own fame. There are plenty of wine shops, but there appeared to be a lack of usual local retailers.

    Obviously focused on wine - but Sancerre is a lovely town with beautiful views and lots of facilities for tourists to learn about Sancerre and what makes it special. Lots of the facilities are geared to include children's interest (even though it's still about wine).

    The staff were great, very pleasant, and the gentleman owner was a charming character. Hotel du Rempart won’t win any awards for having modern rooms, but you’re also taking about a hotel room for a family of four in the centre of Sancerre for €100 when other hotels are upwards of €250. We stayed here for one night as part of a family road trip, it was fine for what we needed.

    The location is excellent with easy walk to restaurants. The view is amazing and the title of the hotel reflects this. All the communal areas are well maintained and the bar especially is worth a visit. The staff are excellent and very helpful.
