    Lovely, long beach.

    Lovely, long beach. Quieter than St Jean de Luz, but still with a good choice of small restaurants, often specialising in fish/seafood. Good public transport links, not expensive, to be able to visit other nearby villages and towns of the Basque Country Lovely walk up over the headland, or instead -a little stroll along the promenade. Visited Hondaribbia in Spain by a very short boat trip that leaves from Hendaye port. Beautiful little village-nice pintxos in the restaurants ! And good view from up by the castle. The historic little train de la Rhune up the mountainside not to be missed-but book ahead-it gets full. The chateau d’Abbadia is interesting.

    Relaxed, friendly town.

    Relaxed, friendly town. The main town is separate from the area with the beach - about a 20min walk along a pleasant waterside walk/cycle way. Both areas are worth a visit. The main town has a nice square with some lovely cafes/small restaurants and the beach area is a little more touristy but also has good places to eat overlooking the sea. We happened to be in town for a fortnightly Friday night community supper in the port so enjoyed freshly grilled sardines, bread, cheese, basque tart and a glass of wine for €13

    Hendaye was lovely to be able to relax and walk everywhere.

    Hendaye was lovely to be able to relax and walk everywhere. Very good place for walking and cycling. The beaches were clean and offered plenty for families and surfers. The restaurant’s we ate at were good value, but there does seem to be a shortage of restaurants.

    The TGV from Paris stops at Hendaye on the French side of...

    The TGV from Paris stops at Hendaye on the French side of the border with Spain. We needed overnight accommodation before crossing to Spanish side and catching mid morning bus to Asturias the next day. Hendaye looked ok but we didn’t have time to explore.

    Hendaye is a lovely town with friendly people and good services….the Spanish influence is strong and it’s great to be able to hop into Spain particularly taking the water taxi to Fontarrabie which is delightful…..

    Hendaye is beautiful but Hendaye Plage itself is a little...

    Hendaye is beautiful but Hendaye Plage itself is a little beautiful beach village with no good restaurants-who goes to France and has bad dinners?!. Also - we had a terrible experience with the rental property we rented near where we have family living.The people who ran the agency that managed our apartment through booking.com/poplidays.com were very unprofessional and unaccommodating when we had serious issues. The property manager or the owner -- I don't know which was greedy and used our security deposit to cover expenses that were outrageous. There was one little smudge on the glass stove top and they withheld 80+ euros for cleaning. The place was spotless except for the smudge. This was just a way to get more money when we already payed a huge amount for a week's rent. They also charged us for a repair to the shutter that would not go down. The day we arrived, the door lock was not working and it required a locksmith to come as we were locked out. They were unreachable for a few hours and provided terrible customer service and the property manager rep who came was cussing up a storm because she had to work after hours. Everyone we dealt with before during and after this rental was obnoxious and not the least bit concerned about us or our experience. They just want the money. So good luck if you go there!

    This was my second time staying, and I love this hotel. Very comfortable rooms, with lovely balconies overlooking the swimming pool and views of the hills. Rooms have kettle and also fridge. Very convenient location for the Gare de Hendaye.
