Hosted by Mama Julia and Kk Mothy, we had an incredible experience at shady homestay for two days. Arrived on Tuesday afternoon, Julia and Mothy picked us up at Waisai. Storm was raging but they prepared everything so our big bags were not wet. Even though waves were very high, Timothy mastered ocean and found our way through the waves. We were then welcomed by the rest of the family with a delicious tea time and snorkeled in front of the homestay, lost in the small satellite islands around Gam island. The place is peaceful, quiet, and extremely beautiful in the middle of nowhere in the Raja Ampat : a Lunar experience. On Wednesday, Timothy and Julia organized us a fabulous daytrip around Gam Island between Sawingrai village, light water, labyrinth mangroves, magical reefs, caves, view points, snorkelings, painted hands geopark famous site, hidden bays, beach walk, coconut… everything was perfect and made very friendly and warm welcoming by Julia, and very fun with Timothy’s talents to drive the boat as a sports car driver in tight ways and hard turnovers ! We left on Thursday after another little trip with Timothy for a batcave and snorkeling morning. We saw everything with them : lots of reef fishes and bigger fishes, manta, dolphins, blacktop sharks, turtles … and even the rarest and endemic Wobbegong shark. What made the experience different and fantastic is the kindness of this whole family working together and making everything seem effortless and great even though it could be hard work for them. Shady Homestay is THE PLACE TO BE for visiting Gam island with the fun experience on board with Timothy and the warm welcome and comfort of the delicious food provided by Julia and their family. Very good bungalows and nice location, very friendly and kind staff, tasty food. You can book tours with owner of this property - and see other islands renting the boat for tour. nature around is amazing!

This homestay on Besir island is ideally located near several interests spots in Raja Ampat. The place is calm, only two cabins on the water, connected to a village full of charm. The utilities are on the beach, near the owner's house. It's very clean and has everything required to answer basic needs. Regarding the rooms, mosquito net on the bed, fan, electricity at night, blankets, hammock, sunbed and basic furnitures. All the meals (included in the reservation) are served to your cabin, they vary and are prepared by an great cook! So everything is tasteful and good. No connection except if you get a SIM card on arrival at Sorong's airport but deconnection is great. It's easy to communicate with the owner who speaks well English (rare in Raja Ampat) and he tries his best for you to have the best stay possible. Him and his family are super nice and welcoming while respecting your privacy. I came with a friend and we stayed 3 full days, we had an amazing time there and we can only recommend this place. All the activities we've done through them were memorable, we had a lot of fun. Have a good holiday there!

Feri and his family were so welcoming. They could answer all our questions and point us in the right direction. Also nothing was too much trouble and they were really accommodating with us wanting to do excursions with limited notice. The views from the huts are stunning, it's nice to be able to walk to the local villages and the snorkelling from the homestay jetty is brilliant - we even saw a dugong!

Paulus and the staff are amazing! Almost every day Paulus offers small boat trips in the Gam area to some remote places and snorkeling with mantas. The staff is very friendly and is cooking very delicious food including fresh fish and vegetables. From the jetty the is some nice snorkeling along the reef where I saw turtles and small sharks. Cuscus is visiting most evenings for some snacks. The village is also worth a visit and people are very friendly. Overall a very nice place to stay for exploring the nearby area.

Aron and his family provided us with a wonderful stay. The bungalow has a fantastic view directly out to sea. You jump into the water, swim 100m and find corals and a great variety of species. Around the bungalow we saw a wobbegong, an epaulette shark, reef sharks, turtles and starfish in the most colorful colors. Aron organized coconuts for us at our request, we were served delicious food directly on our terrace and went on many excursions to fantastic snorkeling spots. Everyone went out of their way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. Aron even organized ear drops from Waisai when we got an earache from diving and saved our vacation! Thank you so much for everything. It was an unforgettable vacation!

We spent over a week at Amoryg and had an unforgettable experience. What we loved the most: - The stunning, secluded location at the far end of Pulau Mansuar, offering a true escape from everyday life. - The incredible coral reefs just steps away from the lovely beach — perfect for snorkeling enthusiasts (sometimes stronger current but perfect for drifts) - The exceptionally kind and helpful staff, always ready to listen to any wishes or feedback and ensure a great stay. - Delicious food that catered to individual preferences, including vegetarian options, which was a real plus. - The fantastic diving experience with Vandy, an experienced, knowledgeable, and attentive dive guide, and his great team. - It was inspiring to see a place like this owned and managed by locals, creating a unique and authentic atmosphere. This is an ideal spot for travelers looking for a family-like, locally-run experience. Flexibility and understanding are key, as local conditions such as weather, fuel supplies, or occasional generator issues can arise. It's also important to note that the desalination plant might not fully meet water demands at all times, but rainwater is available upon request. For us, this was the perfect getaway, and we would absolutely love to return one day. Highly recommended!

Top-notch Homestay. Very clean and comfortable with a good variety of food. There are two dive shops next door so it was easy to arrange diving. Cold beer often available. Possible to hike to the south side of the island (best at low tide) and all the way to Yenbuba. We had a wonderful time, all the best to Paul and crew!
