Beach Hotels in Mtende

Our best hotel during our trip (Mtende, Jambiani, Nungwi). We feel alone in the world at this top extreme south location of Zanzibar. The beach is so beautiful and not a lot of people are there. Rooms are pure and clean and staff is also very kind. You can eat good meals at the restaurant of the hotel or go at another restaurant close to the hotel where you have seafood directly fished under your feet !

Authentic, relaxing, on the beach. We had bad weather but they have a stack of board games and accommodate you eating inside. The staff are great!

What makes Palmera so special is its inspiring mission. The hotel and restaurant operate as a hospitality school for local young women, and the exceptional service they provide is a direct reflection of their training. From their warm smiles to their impeccable attention to detail, you can feel the genuine pride they take in their work. The hotel's setting is pure paradise. The infinity pool overlooking the turquoise sea is mesmerizing, and the lush, immaculately kept gardens create a perfect oasis for relaxation. It was wonderful to be able to walk barefoot through the fine sand and simply enjoy the tranquility. For anyone, but especially for vegans, the restaurant is a must-visit. The creative and delicious vegan dishes, all beautifully prepared and presented by the talented students, were a true highlight. It's a testament to the high-quality training they are receiving. The breakfast, in particular, was the best I had during my three-week stay in Tanzania, the homemade warm bread and homemade chocolate spread were unforgettable. For lunch and dinner, with main courses priced between $11 and $13, it offers exceptional value. This 15-room hotel is a quiet retreat. I stayed when it was almost empty and had no issues with noise, but even when full, the large garden and pool area should provide plenty of space for guests. The price range for double rooms in the 2025 high season was 70-100 USD. All rooms face the sea, though the view can be a bit limited from some of the downstairs rooms. While the large windows are beautiful, the curtains don’t fully cover them, which could be a privacy concern for some. I prefer a firm mattress, and the bed was perfect for me, but it might be a bit too hard for others. The solar-powered hot water worked flawlessly. The road to the hotel is a little bumpy on the last kilometer, but there are plans to improve it. In the bathrooms, I would have appreciated a bit more space to dry towels, or a drying rack on the terrace.

Stunning villa on a beautiful quiet beach. Exactly what we wanted! Away from the busy crowds. The villa, restaurant and facilities were all clean, modern and tastefully done. Food in the restaurant was absolutely fantastic! Best food on our two week trip. Staff were all so friendly and went above and beyond.

Beautiful place, relaxed vibe, staff were super friendly. Room right on the waterfront. Loved all the various lounging spaces. Free kayaks to paddle around in. So glad I took a chance on a South coast beach rather than the more popular Northern/Eastern beaches - this place was perfect.

Our recent stay at the Mandarin Resort Hotel in Zanzibar was fantastic. The hotel grounds are beautifully kept, with a lovely garden and clean, organized surroundings. The location is ideal – just 100 meters from a stunning white sandy beach, 300 meters from the Dive Time Diving Center, and a short 500-meter walk to the village center. The staff and management were friendly and very helpful, making everything run smoothly. The food was excellent, offering a range of unique and diverse dishes, and the chef was approachable and welcoming. Evenings by the pool, with African-themed nights, added a nice touch, and the resident cats were a fun bonus. Highly recommended for anyone looking to enjoy Zanzibar in a relaxed, comfortable setting.

It’s a brand new resort, true five star experience in any sense. Spread on large space so guests do not feel crowded in any way. They have a nice sandy beach about 2m from sea level as coast is like this. However you easily go for a great swim experience on the stairs they built. Swimming on the sunset light reflected on water was excellent. Water not too dip when tide not at highest, so even kids can swim there. Beach is trully private as part of the resort land, which is rare in Zanzibar. Events every evening next to beach area are good quality, either music or dance shows. Great breakfast, we loved the fresh fruits, fresh juices. Breakfast space is fabuluous.

Best place I have been to on the Island! It was so quiet you could hear the wind. Love the small details everywhere. Friendly staff, most beautiful sunset and delicious food. I would definitely recommend this place and be back in the future. Special thanks to all the staff you made my stay memorable.
