Hotel Pelican is set on the beachfront in Schœlcher, 200 metres from Plage De L'anse Madame. This 3-star hotel offers a concierge service and luggage storage space. The location is perfect with a gorgeous view overlooking the sea and the nearby beach and its bay. The large balcony with the outside kitchenette, with a table and chairs plus two armchairs to relax. The personnel really nice, front desk and cleaning staff. The soothing sound of tiny frogs at night and the visits of small lizards 🦎 on the balcony were plusses.

Situated in Saint-François and with Mancellinier Beach reachable within 80 metres, Hôtel La Christophine features concierge services, non-smoking rooms, a garden, free WiFi and a restaurant. The location was perfect for exploring Grande Terre. The rooms were lovely; the pool area divine. The breakfast (and the dinners) were great value, served with attention and care. The hosts were absolutely wonderful, helping us to plan our two weeks in Guadeloupe, and showing great patience with our limited language skills (primarily English, with only a bit of French.) When our travel plans to Marie Galante were disrupted, their help was essential to keeping our vacation on track.

Featuring a swimming pool, water sports facilities, a terrace and views of the sea, Le Jardin des Ilets is located in Bouillante and provides accommodation with free WiFi. We absolutely loved everything about our two weeks stay at Le Jardin des Ilets. Vince & Christine made us feel extremely welcome and were always available to answer any questions or ask advice on where to visit. We stayed in ‘Calibri’, one of eight individual homes located at the top of a steep road at Malendure located north of Bouillante. There are fabulous views across the neighbouring beach and Jacques Cousteau Nature Reserve. Every evening, we were treated to an amazing sunset! All facilities were modern and clean, the bed was comfy, with separate toilet and shower area. Hiring a car is the best way to explore the island and it was easy to park at Le Jardin des Ilets. Sliding doors give access to a large decking area with large table, chairs and hammock from which you can enjoy the marvellous views over the bay. There is a separate kitchen area with a sliding door onto the decking area. This came equipped with fridge freezer, hob, oven, toaster, coffee maker, kettle and lots of the usual kitchen equipment. The purpose of our visit was to explore the local area, go snorkelling, try local food, drink rum punch, rest and enjoy the beauty before us. We especially loved spending time at the swimming pool which was well looked after and beautifully clean. The internet/Wi-Fi provision was excellent.

Located 200 metres from Gros Raisin Beach and 2 km from Corps de Garde Est Beach, Brise Marine features free WiFi and units equipped with a kitchen, patio and seating area. it is located a 5-minute walk from Sainte Luce and has a beach directly in front. It’s very clean and well-maintained. Maintenance was there every day checking things. The staff were wonderful from check-in to check-out.

Located in La Trinité, 400 metres from Plage de la Breche, French Coco provides accommodation with an outdoor swimming pool, free private parking, a garden and a restaurant. The greatest vacay ever, everything was so nice - location, scenery, breakfast, the stay was just amazing. I would definitely return and warmly recommend.

Set in Port-Louis in the Grande-Terre region, Gites Kaladja offers accommodation with free private parking, as well as access to an open-air bath. The setting was exquisite. The lush and diverse garden and surrounding decor made for a very zen experience. The hosts were an optimal combination of attentive and discreet. Also helpful with several local suggestions.

Located in Pointe-Noire, 2.4 km from Marigot Beach, Le Bougainvillier Blanc provides air-conditioned rooms and an outdoor swimming pool. We spent a delightful 6 days at La Bougainvillier Blanc in late January. We have poor French-language skills but we managed quite well, aided by a translation app on our phone (you need lots of data - 50 MB). We deliberately didn’t rent a car - that worked because we like walking. If that’s not your preference, you’ll have an easier time with a rental. Our favourite places were the larger local beach, Plage Caraibe, (great snorkelling at the north end) which was about 5 km away, and the Chute de Acomet, a beautiful little waterfall with lots of little pools downstream, which was 7.5 km away. That made for some long walks with some significant hills. Fortunately, there is also a local transport system available which made it easy to get to the other nearby beach (Plage de Petite Anse). Hitch-hiking is considered normal. Good local maps are free at the tourist office. Our gracious host Lucien has a wonderful little swimming pool at the guesthouse, so an end-of-day swim was part of our routine. The trickiest part for us was dinner – we tried to get back to La Bougainvillier Blanc by sunset to avoid walking in the dark, but most restaurants only opened later. We worked around this by eating a large late lunch (good choices at the beaches), eating at the one restaurant that opened at 17:00 (An Ba Tol La), or else making our own dinner in our well-equipped kitchen. If you have a car, there are at least 3 good restaurants close by. Pointe-Noire is not a tourist town so most shops close in the afternoon. Some useful shops that are open most of the day are along the main road (N2) – there are two pharmacies in the centre of town, and a large grocery ((Carrefour Express) and a good bakery/coffee shop on the southern half of town. We weren’t looking for a lot of tourist activities – just a quiet, peaceful time with low-key, interesting things to do each day. La Bougainvillier Blanc and Pointe-Noire were perfect for that.
