They even put on music I like over breakfast! The food was delicious and met my dietary needs perfectly. The decor is unique, gorgeous (gold leaf everywhere) and a touch sexy. The garden is lovely and has shady spots for chatting or meditating. The location is convenient for exploring Verdun and the battlefields, without being touristy. It's also an area I have previously found convenient to stay in, as a Brit travelling in France, because it's a reasonable day's drive from Amsterdam or Rotterdam, and an easy day from Calais.

We really enjoyed our stay there. The house is very well organised and has all the amenities (and more) someone might need during his stay. The owner was very helpful, although he did not speak English, but thanks to technology we managed to communicate. When he learned that we were on a historical tour on WW1 battlefields, he went out of his way to give us brochures, instructions, suggestions, etc. We cannot thank him enough. The house itself is in a very nice little village, which is ideal for those who want to experience the French countryside and at the same time be fairly close to an urban center.

I am not sure I can express just how much we enjoyed our stay at Arara - it exceeded all expectations and was a gem of a place to call home for 2 nights during our visit to the Argonne Forest area. The outside seating areas are comfortable, welcoming and relaxing after a long day touring on our bikes. The hosts add the true flavor to this facility - they are well traveled and the decore reflects there interest in history. The main dining table welcomes great conversation and is topped off with delicious meals provided by the hosts. They also provide a variety of drinks you can add to your enjoyment - beers, wines, soft drinks etc. The room was another spectacular bonus to our stay at Arara - modern, clean, spacious, views. Arara is an unexpected luxury in this region of France. Go for the location, rooms, value but most of all for the hosts. We miss them already.

Les Orchidees is situated 2 km from the centre of Verdun, between Metz and Reims. It offers an outdoor swimming pool and en suite accommodation with free Wi-Fi and free private parking on site. It was a very good hotel. They were flexible with the room because I had to pick up my daughter from a vacation camp. The restaurant was very nice.
