Departure point for Isle of Wight ferries and grand cruise liners including the Queen Mary 2, Southampton is understandably centred around its port. But even if you’re passing through, the city has more than enough to make you want to stay awhile. The Hythe Ferry from the port passes Netley, site of a ruined abbey, and ends at Hythe Pier, home to the world’s oldest pier train.
There is much older history in the city centre where the 15th-century city walls are amongst the most complete in England. Also remaining is the medieval Bargate gatehouse.
Just behind is the Bargate Shopping Centre, while high street stores in the city centre and West Quay are other Southampton shopping choices. As for entertainment, the city is well served by theatres, and Oxford Street has the best bars and restaurants. All are easily reached from the apartments, B&Bs and hotels in Southampton available on Booking.com.
There is also a surprising amount of green space in the city and its central parks are Grade II-listed. Slightly further out is Southampton Common, whose Urban Wildlife Centre is worth a visit.
If you’re flying out of Southampton Airport, don’t leave without having visited the Maritime Museum or Archaeology Museum, both detailing the history of this long-established city.

This was my second stay in Southampton and I have enjoyed it both times. There is plenty to see with the museums and galleries. The food options are very good with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. I really liked all the parks and open spaces. Taxis are easy to get and you can also pre book which is what we did to get back and forth to the cruise terminal. We traveled in and out of Southampton airport and it is a great airport as it is small and friendly and probably nicest airport experience I have ever had.

The Pub across the road does not serve food.
The Pub across the road does not serve food. There are several places to eat roughly 1 mile away, a 15 minute walk. The Mayflower Village Pub served excellent meals and drinks. Ristorante Italiano also served very good Italian food. There is a Subway close by that is open for breakfast. We Ubered from the bus station and to the cruise terminal.

We went to Southampton to go to the Mayflower theatre which is good value compared to London theatres. It has lots of shows and good facilities. We will go back. We also had a good dinner at Papillon which is opposite the theatre. We stayed at the Ibis which is good value and well located for the Mayflower.
We arrived a little before the 3pm check-in time but our room was available straight away. I had requested a quiet room if possible because my child is on the autistic spectrum and we were given a room in a very quiet part of the hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a convenient location for the city centre on the edge of the old town. I would definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers and would stay there if I was visiting Southampton again.
The hotel is in a very good position for visiting the theatre in Southampton, whilst being in a very quiet and secluded place. The room was a good size, with a bath rather than just a shower. The breakfast offering, again went above and beyond, with an exceptional choice, and very good quality. The gentleman overseeing the breakfast room was delightful. At the price, this hotel would be very hard to beat.
I had travelled by train and it’s just 10/15 mins walk from station I had ground floor room which was lovely very clean plenty tea coffee etc just could not find a fault also great communication right up to day of arrival they don’t serve breakfast which was fine I brought mine I would highly recommend this Hotel easy walk into town too and if cruising from new cruise terminal Horizon it’s a 20/25 min walk
Our room was the cheapest in Southampton for our dates so we were unsure what to expect. However we had a great stay! The cleanliness of the room was far more than I had expected for the price of our trip, we'd brought our own travel cot just in case but we were very happy with the Hotel's one so didn't use our own.
The room size was great and the super king bed a bonus!
Great location too!
Exceutive King Room, well worth paying the extra for this room massive comfortable bed large room.
Dinned at the restaurant had main & dessert was excellent food, breakfast was good.
Staff at Hotel where friendly & helpful made to feel welcome you can't fault the place or staff have stayed four or more times will continue to stay when in Southampton. 100% recommend.
Location is great! Staff is wonderful! I arrived earlier and the host was in hospital with his wife for emergency! I texted him and he rush to the hotel and let us dropped our luggage then he rush back to hospital! My heart go out to him and his wife and wish his wife the best! Thank you again, Really appreciate it🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I loved the location of the hotel in the historical district and within walking distance of Southampton's highlights. I especially liked the history of the hotel. The traditional English breakfast was excellent. The manager was very hospitable and gave me a brief tour of the hotel to include the ballroom on second floor, which I enjoyed seeing.
The location was an easy walk from the train and a minute to the downtown. The hotel was much nicer than I anticipated for what seemed like a bargain price. I loved the little touches of tea and coffee service set up in our room with cookies. We ate at the restaurant and the food was delicious.
It was an excellent experience to stay at Ennios Boutique Hotel! If I come to Southampton again I will stay again at the same place. Lovely staff, wonderful meals in the restaurant, clean room and very friendly atmosphere! Highly enjoyed my stay there!
Amazing
The place was simply fabulous. Rooms are very comfortable with a great view. Lobby area is quite nice and staff very helpful. The in-house restaurant is excellent and the hotel location is near some other great restaurants.
What I liked about the property is that it’s a cheap hotel in a good location, with easy access to the city centre and shopping area. Very convenient location within just a few minutes drive to Paultons Park.
Perfect as a base for us and our dog as a short stay. Good size room, water pressure in shower fantastic. Good soundproofing and black out curtains. Easy walk to centre of Southampton.
I picked this hotel as the location was 20 minutes from everywhere I needed to go. the whole stay was enjoyable and will be booking again on my next trip to Southampton
Hotel great location both for a night out in Southampton and cruise terminals. Always found the hotel met our expectations. Clean good rooms and hearty breakfast.
