The Barnsdale, Rutland, hotel in Oakham

Nestled close to the shores of Rutland Water, just 5 minutes’ drive from Oakham and a 50-minute drive from Leicester.

Friendly staff and clean accommodation. The shower was over the bath and not easy to access if you have back problems as we do. If we had been staying longer we would have requested an opportunity to change rooms. My wife has a dairy sensitivity and this was well catered for until our final meal. We both chose a fish dish and the dip for my wife was supposed to be dairy free. We believe the 2 plates were confused by the member of staff when served. Although she had only a taste, we were wary and it was left. The hotel was in beautiful grounds and a beautiful area for a holiday.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. My room, a single room had a large and very comfortable bed. It was spotlessly clean and well-furnished. Breakfast was very good. The chef prepared meals for me that perfectly matched my dietary needs. A great experience and I will return!

I love the scenery, the wildlife, I'm a walker, so great walks, the town of oakham has everything u need, but what I like most is it's not commercialised, still a pretty little market town.i also used train & went to peterborough, the parking at the station was only £2.50 for the whole day. I had lunch one day at a lovely little cafe tucked in the corner of the market Square called Hungry Birds.

There are some pretty villages around in this area. Also, of course, Rutland Water is a great attraction, with walks, cycle rides and many water activities. Oakham itself has the remains of a castle with a tearoom.

I had a cosy double room and it was more than adequate. Very nicely furnished and a coffee machine as well as a kettle. Had a party of friends for dinner in the restaurant(Blossoms) the food was very nice but the service was a little underwhelming, although very friendly it was a little slow at times even though it was pretty quiet. The hotel is in an amazing location right by the Rutland water lakes.

Excellent location for Oakham and the nearby birdwatching centres. Staff were friendly and helpful; the refurbishment of the hotel has been carried out in a sympathetic and attractive fashion, and the whole place had a relaxed atmosphere. Food was very good (breakfast and dinner). Enclosed courtyard made a very attractive and comfortable sitting out area. Our room was comfortable with a good bed.

The food we had for dinner was really tasty, and served promptly, and with a smile. Our room was very warm and the bed very comfortable.Tea and coffee provided, and the use of a kettle as well as coffee maker. Lovely welcoming hosts who have made the cottage feel more like a home. Definitely recommend staying here if anyone is thinking of visiting the area.

Lovely quiet location , within walking distance of shops, pubs and restaurants but also quiet walks. Lovely outside space to sit when the weather was nice and ample space for a family with growing teenagers to share. Well placed for Rutland Water but also ideally located to visit nearby cities and towns.

Fabulous old rectory in a quiet village outside Oakham. Friendly, helpful host. Easy parking. Good WiFi. Comfortable bed in a spacious, en-suite room overlooking the gravel driveway. No traffic noise so slept soundly. Best breakfast I've ever had in a B&B! Great value for money and highly recommended.

as soon as you walk in the door it’s excellent. the only issue inside is I prefer a higher water pressure when I am taking a shower. best thing was the air conditioning, I was there during a heat wave and all of travel buddies complained about the hotels not having air.

Breakfast was not provided. Was it supposed to have been? This was not a hotel. It was just "rooms" that were difficult to find. I received no instructions on how to get into the room. The room was cold with no way of activating the radiator.
