The breakfast is fantastic. We got upgraded when we checked in, and the room was a great size with a huge bathroom, which had everything we needed. The complimentary mini bar was a nice touch, as was good quality coffee in the rooms.
This property is located a 10 minute drive from Colchester centre, next to the A12 motorway. There is an on-site restaurant and free parking. Free high-speed WiFi is available throughout the property....

Nice comfortable and clean rooms. Breakfast was fine too. Free parking. Overall good value for money and would stop again.
On average, 3-star hotels in Colchester cost NOK 1,104 per night, and 4-star hotels in Colchester are NOK 1,568 per night. If you're looking for something really special, a 5-star hotel in Colchester can on average be found for NOK 1,675 per night (based on Booking.com prices).
I liked the town and its history. However, I found the prices in pubs to be excessive, regarding both food and drink. The portion I received in the George was very small, especially considering I'd paid twenty-four pounds for it. It consisted of a tiny piece of fish, three mussels, a little broccoli, and two very small pieces of potato. In the Castle, I paid eighteen ponds fifty for a pint, with pie and mash. The price of a pint in most pubs was what you might expect to pay in London.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Great weekend destination.
Great weekend destination. Loads of big and little shops, cafes, restaurants and craft ales bars. Great atmosphere in town. On top of this the most amazing castle and wobbly medieval houses and Roman walls something for everyone!!
Town centre easy to walk round and explore and topped off with a fabulous meal at China Chef!

You have to be fit as there is a lot of walking
The hotel was half way up the hill and the nearest bus stops at the top or bottom.
There are many buses which basicly end up at Osbourne road bus station
There are numerous scooters for hire with i phone but i didnt see a main point of distribution just abonded scooters hear and there .
The hotel's location is great for a city break to Colchester to explore the historic town. The area has some good restaurants, independent cafes and retail therapy e.g. Fenwick upmarket department store. The hotel staff were professional and very helpful, being able to provide local knowledge, and practicalities like closing a stuck bedroom window. The continental breakfast was good with a fair amount of choice. Free and secure on-site parking was a big plus too, with the solid entrance gates being shut from 9pm nightly.
The rooms where comfy and decorated with a homely feel. The location and car park was very convenient. Not many hotels are a walking distance to town and have free parking. Staff are friendly. I personally think the bad reviews were not to do with the service but discrimination. This hotel definitely has potential and I feel like the staff are working hard to make it Better. I think the improvements that need to be made are reflected in the price a it’s very cheap compared to other hotels in the area.
I last stayed at the hotel approx., 15 years ago and the room had changed little over that time. There was also a lot of building works going on. Looked like an extension, possibly to the dining room. I guess that was the reason why the dining room was closed. Instead, you could eat in the bar area where there were (possibly) 10 small tables with 1 to 2 covers. Lacked ambiance and the menu was obviously limited but my meal was OK. Wanted a cheap stay whilst travelling so this fitted the bill.
Baye House is like a heaven and oasis for us. The room is spacious and comfortable. In the morning I enjoyed hearing the birds singing from the room “Tree.” The common area including the garden, the guest lounge, the bathroom and the shared kitchen is very well decorated and maintained. We had very good sleep and refreshed ourselves there. Thank you, Annie. If we have a chance to go back to Colchester, we will definitely stay at Baye House again.
We used the hotel as a centre point for visiting the historic town of Colchester, and for this it was ideal. It had a very relaxed atmosphere, with very friendly and helpful staff. The bedrooms were very luxurious and comfortable. We only had breakfasts, but these were amazing. Would certainly recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Colchester.
We loved everything about the hotel especially the swimming area for the kids and we enjoyed our stay. All the staff are so friendly especially the staff member in the leisure center. Also the buses to Colchester town was great also the bus stops are so close to the hotel.
The location is really good. 100m from the castle on the high street. The room was spacious and was really clean. The balcony was useful and had a good view over Colchester.
The breakfast over the road in the George Hotel was tasty and there was plenty of selection.
Well located boutique hotel in the centre of Colchester.
Lovely downstairs bar & restaurant.
Rooms are cosy, clean & comfortable with good shower.
Staff are welcoming and helpful.
Great freshly cooked breakfast.
Good value for money.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. Check in was very straightforward. The decor was very tasteful. The best hotel breakfast I think I’ve ever had. Made to order and had gluten free options too. Even had air on in the rooms!
The location of the place.
Loved the building too
and the beds and room, loved that we had out own door to the main road so we didn't have to walk to the reception as we were round the back of the hotel.
what a wonderful hotel! great location, very welcoming, had delicious food, the room clean and comfortable. the staff was exceptionally nice. lots to do in colchester. highly recommended.
It was in a quiet area with a bus stop quite near for Colchester town Center. Also some trailing paths half an hour away on foot. Perfect if you have a car as lots of parking around.
Clean, good size bathroom, comfortable bed. Shame this hotel is where it is because it's the area that lets it down. Soundproof the windows and this would be so so much better.
Situated on the A12 just outside of Colchester. We stayed here as it was a short ride from our daughter's Colchester Zoo and on the route to Braintree Shopping Village.
