Christchurch surprised me.
The weather was lovely in Autumn when I visited.
If its a walking holiday you like your in luck here. Everything is within walking distance!
Hagley Park & Gardens in Autumn was without doubt the highlight. You must make time to explore it & that will take a day or two. You will not be disappointed with the Iiex Cafe delicious coconut cake with fresh raspberries! Eat it outside in the sun before you venture off to the Botanic & Rose Gardens.
The city itself is so quaint & easy to walk around or hop on & off the regular trams that rattle through the streets. After all that walking around you'll need to replenish at The Riverside Markets - a great place for a food tour with wine & whiskey too!
The CoCA Gallery & CHCH Art Gallery are lovely as is wandering around the cultural centre in that area & onto Worcester Boulevard.
Do dine at Fiddlesticks in the evening if you get the chance ...yum!
Must go to Little High & if pizza is your thing do not go past the pizza there!

It should be compulsory to visit the Quake Museum to understand why there are so many vacant lots. Christchurch is a modern city, extremely clean and everyone we talked to, is proud to live there. A must to visit are the Riverside Markets, The Church Brew Pub [a new experience!], the Art Gallery, the Arts Centre, take the bus to Lyttleton, a small fishermen village and, if possible, take the TranzAlpine train to Greymouth. We gave the trams a miss as we could walk everywhere from our accommodation but it is a fantastic way to see Christchurch from the comfort of the seat.

I was based in Hornby for my 3-day stay.
I was based in Hornby for my 3-day stay. The motel I used was perfectly placed for everything I needed to do, next to a lovely park and with easy access to restaurants and the Hub mall facilities for shopping. I wish I'd had a bit more time to explore how the city centre has changed since I was last there, but not this trip.

I spent 4 months in NZ and for various reasons and at different times, stayed about 9 nights/days in Christchurch, alone and also with my husband. We loved the vibe of the city. It felt a happy place, offering everything a city has to offer but in an intimate way. It felt safe, clean and it was lovely to see families enjoying the public bbqs and spaces. Lots of greenery and parks. A place that felt traditional yet new. Great places to eat, drink and watch the world go by. Really loved this place and I am not a city person! Riccarton House and gardens was a highlight. There are plenty of places around to explore for day trips too and the second hand bookshops in Ferry Road area are the least expensive I have come across in NZ! Could definitely keep going back there, even just for the hospitality and genuine friendliness of the locals.

Our visit was shorter than we would of liked but I fully recommend the International Antarctic Centre - children loved it and we could of stayed longer, informational, fun, interactive and lots to do, husky puppy was gorgeous and Matua who greeted us was informative and korero was refreshing. The cafe was great and again even the children found food they liked.
We went to Build-a-Bear to create a keepsake of our trip and that was a fun activity - Mall was open to 9pm so we were able to pop down and not rush.
The Outlet Store for new Crocs - a must for Croc addicted children.
Christchurch Tram Tour - Is a must-do. (We have done this tour previously and were disappointed to not be able to go this visit)
Christchurch Library (Tūranga) - Interactive and fun, friendly people.
We had hired a Campervan to travel in and there was a lot of areas that you could park a Camper so that was great for us to pull over and walk around.
We didn't do as much sightseeing as we would have liked but we have decided to book again for a few more days there as we spent more time in Dunedin then we expected.
We did miss going to Cookie Time as traffic was horrendous so that needs to be planned better for our next time down there.

Great city with lots to offer, found lots of interesting places through recommendations from the tram drivers who were full of lots of interesting facts and very helpful, definitely worth doing the tourist attractions, transport very easy to use throughout the city
Stunning heritage venue with a superb location in central Christchurch CBD. Close to all town venues, attractions, and amenities including public bus transport. Beautiful high ceilings and split-level rooms stay warm and comfortable in winter and are quake-proofed. Mostly high quality (albeit older) appliances for self-contained living, and Sky TV included. Fast cleaning upon request, and great sun block-out curtains. Excellent in-house gym, pool, and sauna amenities. Friendly staff. Less than half the price of the hotel in the same building.
The hotel was just what we were looking for since we were only staying for a night to fly out of the Christchurch Airport the next morning. It was only a 5 minute walk to/from the airport but luckily also had a complimentary shuttle which we ended up using. The staff was very friendly, and there was even a scale in the lobby to weigh your bags before going to the airport. The hotel was also within walking distance to lots of restaurants and a supermarket. The room itself was very clean and had all of the amenities we needed.
We booked this hotel as we landed into Christchurch late and wanted to be close to our campervan pickup at the airport the following morning. Hotel was 2min walk from departure hall and staff on arrival were really friendly and checked us in quickly without any issues. Room was a good size with two doubles. We opted for the breakfast which was excellent - buffet style with lots of choice.
Designer Cottage was a great value for Christchurch! The room was super cute and cozy. I loved the garden and outdoor table. There are lots of food options nearby. Breakfast was nice and the owner was very accommodating to my special dietary needs (gluten free and dairy free). He also provided plug adapters when mine stopped working and arranged for my early morning taxi to the airport.
Friends who had previously stayed at the hotel strongly recommended that we do the same. They were correct. The hotel, which was a government building, is located in the center of Christchurch. The room was outstanding - 2 floors with all amenities. There is a wonderful pub in the main lobby area, not officially part of the hotel, that was excellent. We would go there again.
Have been a returning Guest at Hotel Give Christchurch City for some time, it's always a pleasure coming back to stay.
Great location, Comfortable Beds, Clean Rooms & Kitchen facilities. Good selection of Room types for your budget.
24 Hour Reception and Staff are very helpful. The new Airport Bus Stop is just along the same Road and was very handy.
Everything it was wonderful. The staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was so big and roomy. We had to stay longer as we didn't want to leave. Spa bath was small but great to have after a hard day of exploring Christchurch. Both the restaurants on the ground floor had nice food.
The Hotel is within walking distance to the Riccarton Mall.
Unbelievable accommodation for price. Yes the room was small. But it was so clean, very comfy beds, awesome strong shower. Staff were so friendly. Awesome cheap shuttle arranged to airport. I highly recommend Southwark Hotel and Apartments. probably only as a stopover for one night, maybe two but we will be back.
Very clean and tidy, well maintained, and staffed. Great for a simple night’s sleep with comfortable high beds, bedside power, en suite toilet, and coat hooks. Great location close to Countdown shopping, ATM, food, and the 29 Bus to Christchurch CBD and not far from the airport!
Room was nice and clean, recently refurbished. So everything worked well. Location opposite the arts precinct is terrific. I would add a caveat about there being quite a bit of construction going on around the hotel, but I think that apples to most of Christchurch these days.
Great location, really genuine friendly staff, clean well equipped comfortable rooms that have all you really need, and a very good restaurant attached to the hotel. Great pub just down the road as well. Easy to find from Airport and only ten minutes into CBD.
Modern, clean and sophisticated hotel close to Christchurch CBD. Staff are friendly and the cafe/cocktail bar is exceptional. The rooms are well laid out and the bathrooms are modern and functional. Car parking is available and is easy. Highly recommended.
It’s always a pleasure staying at the race course hotel, it’s convenient if you don’t want to drive to city bus stops outside, handy to airport, meals are fantastic and staff make you feel so welcome, it’s my preferred hotel when visiting Christchurch
Great room size, we really enjoyed our stay.
My partner and I have stayed multiple times and have always enjoyed our time there, this is our go to hotel whe. We come to Christchurch, thank you
The service from the staff, the breakfast, the pool, the location, the price, basically everything! I would recommend this hotel and I would book again if I ever go back to Christchurch.
Very near airport and next door to international antartic centre. Airport shuttle available 24/7. Also walking distance to supermarket. Room is comfy and clean.
