Hyde Park is not a large town but close to the large Poughkeepsie if you need more excitement. All Roosevelt parks were within 10 mn drive plus the Vanderbilt mansion. Quite interesting tours and information. Try a meal at the Eveready Diner where there is a food for every taste.

The National Park Service had limited staff so several of the smaller FDR properties were not opened and some only some days of the week. All the FDR properties we saw were excellent. The area has other attractions including the Culinary Institute and the lovely town Rheinbeck are excellent.

Worth a trip to see the Vanderbilt Mansion and the Roosevelt home and museum. The unfortunate thing about the town of Hyde Park itself is it has no town center, its just a series of strip malls, gas stations and other than Hyde Park Brewery, unexciting restaurants. There is one cute coffee ship called Cranberry Café which does breakfast and lunch. I've recently read the city fathers recognize this issue and are trying to attract new businesses to turn the town center into something more like nearby Rhinebeck, which is lovely and walkable with lots of great restaurants and bars. My advice if you are visiting Hyde Park is to go either north or south to Poughkeepsie or Rhinebeck for most meals. Also, don't miss Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie.

i was coming home to bury my mother so it was a sad but nice trip.. saw my family, did a trip down memory lane from my childhood. Hyde Park was used as school field trips so nothing was new but lots of changes are coming for the better. It was a shame the state mental hospital was closed up (I worked there for a couple years in college) and being ready for demolition. I didn't so much want to view the inside but to ride by it closer... the chapel on the grounds was where my son was christened and that was gone from what i could see... again.. would have loved to just drive by snap a photo or two.
The breakfast was delicious. With a great variety, portion sensitive approach which reduces waste.
A very nice balance between modern style and country chic. The hotel is very quiet, the parking lot was quite full but we never heard excessive noise or felt any kind of overcrowding.
Location - biggest complaint was how hot the hotel, especially inside the room. Air conditioner did not seem to work at all. Also wish there had been an outdoor seating area or a pool.
Even though it’s a tiny hotel, it is set up very nicely and is very easy to find! For it being so close to my school, i am very pleased with how clean and friendly the place was!
Location - Across the street from the Culinary Institute of America
Staff - Very friendly
Room size - Very big
Bed - Very comfortable
Hotel bar - Attractive place to sit
