Mainly a passing town and not worth a night as the hotel prices are pretty steep. Less food choices as well. One way to see this place is arrive in the morning and leave by late afternoon. A few hours is what you need.

Great spot for a tour both a guided and a self guided if you have time. Just prepare for the weather if you are doing a tour on an open bus! Great Navajo guides and a great opportunity to learn more about Native American people.

in order to best take in the valley - I would give yourself a full day to do the scenic drive within the park, and check out some of the other scenic spots nearby. The scenic drive is only available for a short window mid day so plan accordingly. the formations and local pride in the area is very memorable.

The amount of construction around the scenic areas is shocking. I never expected Monument Valley to be in the middle of housing. It was a very sad thing to see. I guess it's the smell of money that changed Monument Valley into a kind of Disneyland. Based on what I saw, I would not make a detour.

Monument Valley is to be experienced!
Monument Valley is to be experienced! We both drove it ourselves and took a tour. I would highly recommend MV Dineh Rebekah (SP?) Cultural Tour which took us behind public areas and we had the attention of a Dineh Guide. It was magical.

We got to the lodge just in time to see the sun set in Monument Valley. Our balcony area gave us a perfect view! The room was beautifully decorated and the beds were comfortable.
A big hit was the John Wayne movie showing at the theater! Since it was filmed in Monument Valley, we got a taste of what it would have been like in 1939 when the film was made.
Also, while we were unpacking, both of us inadvertently left our room key inside. The front desk person cheerfully gave my husband another key!
The photo is from our balcony.
This was a very convenient location for exploring Monument Valley. The room was clean, pet friendly, and quiet. The power was out in the area when I first arrived, but staff were extremely helpful in explaining my options and offered a refund if I wanted to move to a different hotel. I chose to stay and am glad I did, because the power came back on and it was a very pleasant stay. My phone reception was a bit spotty, but they had great wifi. I just wish I'd had more time in the area so I could visit the museum in the area.
The location was beyond expectations. Historic place, fits excellent in Monument Valley. The little houses with the patio are ideal to relax and enjoy the view of the Monument Valley. Only a few minutes driving from Monument Valley Tribal Park entrance. Also many tours were offered. Our suite was very comfortable and extremely clean. The staff was very friendly and polite. I wish I had a month to stay and enjoy Goulding’s Lodge. Definitely get back!
The location is incredible, so close to Monument Valley. I stayed in a 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom house, with family, atop a hill in a red rock canyon. The view was fabulous, and the house had everything we needed. Goulding’s is like a little village, with a grocery store, gas station, and laundromat, as well as a restaurant, gift shop, and small indoor swimming pool — great to have all these facilities right there. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Every lodge room has a panoramic view of several buttes. There’s also a very personal museum that gives the history of the founders and early days of the lodge, a very good restaurant with great staff, a nice gift shop, free nightly showings in a little theater building of John Wayne movies that were filmed in Monument Valley, hiking trails starting right on the premises, and guided motor tours of the area. The lodge location is spectacular.
This hotel is not located in The Monument Valley itself but just outside. There is though a nice view from the room and balcony on the big rocks outside the parc. The room is comfortable. You can have a meal in the restaurant. The hotel is close to the entrance of Monument Valley. We ate our self provided breabfast on the balcony and enjoyed the beautiful view.
The location of the hotel was great. It is very close to The Monument Valley Welcome Center where many of the tours pick up. It is also close to the Visitors Center. There are many amenities on site and they actually offer tours as well. Breakfast was not complimentary, but was offered in the on site restaurant. It was very good. The staff were helpful.
Great location for Monument Valley. Stayed in the one bedroom trailers which was clean, tidy, spacious and comfortable, and quiet. Onsite grocery store was well stocked. Restaurant onsite, but get there early else there is a 30+minute wait for a table, and service is slow. They offer a tour of Monument Valley which was definity worth doing.
The view was phenomenal! The location was excellent! Our room exceeded our expectations and was very clean. We had more than enough room for our large family. We booked a lodge and it was like a tiny home. So cute! The porch view was amazing! Be sure to check out the museum and John Wayne cabin on site
The place was great, there was a museum, small theatre, grocery store, restaurant, gift shop, laundromat, and gas station around the hotel. The room is so clean and lovely, a balcony to view the Monument Valley all day. We would like to go back again to fully experience the park when it reopens.
Very nice room with an amazing view to the Monument Valley. You can dine & breakfast at the hotel's restaurant and the food is very tasty. Everybody is very polite and for sure we appreciated the overall vibe of the location.
Tips: they don't serve alcool at the restaurant.
The view over part of the north bit of Monument Valley was excellent. Monument Valley Tribal Park itself was a small 10 minute drive. The room was clean and spaceous. It had a swimming pool. The balcony was very good. It had a small supermarket shop with alot of choice.
It was great to have a little cottage of our own with a complete kitchen. It was great to be able to see monument valley from the kitchen window. We were off season, so everything was quiet and pleasant during our stay, although a bit cold outside.
The view from the room was stunning especially at sunrise and the hotel facilities were great for such a small place. We especially loved being able to watch a John Wayne monument valley movie in the cinema.
