Stanton has a real down town. Not just for visitors but also for its residents to shop, dine and enjoy. So the merchants offer more than mementos and gift items. PLUS it has the only replica of Shakespeare's Black Friars Theathe at the American Shakespeare Center. That alone Stanton put its mark on the planet.

Did not give us the room we booked because they did not state that they had specific pet friendly rooms nor did they have us down as having a pet though i stated it in the reservation. Room was dusty and bathroom floor dirty. AC/heat unit noisy. And be warned there are freight train tracks about 20yards off the back od the hotel, so we had 2 trains go by during the early morning hours, 1:30am and around 3am that provided about 5 minutes of rumbling and shaking each. Not a recommended hotel for tired travelers

There are so many cute and wonderful stores. Could use more restaurants but plenty of coffee shops. Several museums and theatres (movies and live acting). I am especially interested in going back to the Shakespeare Theatre, and President Wilson's home/library.

Location is just right for me, it’s only 10 minutes drive to Historic Downtown Staunton, The Hotel is only 3 years old and it’s barely new, nice facilities good enough for my needs, exercise room and. pool also free parking and free breakfast with 24/7 free Coffee. The hotel rate is competitive enough against the competition. the breakfast is good enough bagels with Cream cheese, boiled eggs, omelette, cereals, muffins , etc we enjoyed walking at t e historic district. We also explore the Thorn Rose cemetery Lots of places to eats,

We wanted a weekend getaway with history, and small-town 'Hallmark' charm. Staunton was perfect in every way. Easily walkable, beautiful downtown area, rich in history & haunted tales, with many unique small businesses to support & explore. We visited 2 great parks, & ate at The Clocktower Restaurant, and ventured to numerous breweries and wine tasting rooms. Our only complaint was that there are not many restaurants that are open past 9 pm, so any kind of "nightlife," bar, or later dinner is not an option.
I was thrilled to find out how very close we were to downtown Staunton and the Blackfriar theater. Also that the outdoor pool at the hotel was available to us. We are older travelers, who find walking difficult, but using t he New st. parking garage (free) which took us to Beverley St. for shopping, dinner, music, etc. and also right around the corner from the Shakespeare theater , our weekend was wonderful. I was very happy with my choice of Howard Johnson.
Pet friendly. Breakfast provided. Restaurant and gas station nearby. This is a compact little high rise hotel with clean rooms and considerate staff. When advised that we had a dog and a person with walking issues, they located us to the ground floor, but with the warning that an unscheduled coal train came by at the night - and the tracks are a stone's throw from the room. In truth, the noise wasn't that bad, but knowing it was coming helped a great deal.
Always clean and welcoming on my way to and from South Carolina. Great hilltop setting overlooking mountains and farm pastures dotted with cattle grazing. Beautiful Staunton, is a very quick hop with every amenity and some lovely parks. Property working steadily all the time to improve their and update their rooms. You won't regret giving them a try. In room coffee and continental breakfast which many hotels are still not doing. A+++ keep up good work !
Beautiful facility. Centrally located to what we needed for our trip. Breakfast was delicious. The weight room was very accommodating for our workouts, where most hotels only have 1-2 pieces of equipment. Didn’t get opportunity to use pool, but looked great. Will definitely recommend to others. When we come back to area & need a place to stay, AVID-STAUNTON will definitely be our first option.
Didn't expect anything from this hotel. Just a hotel near our route. The hotel turned out to be cozy, modern, with good sound insulation (those who have stayed in roadside American hotels will understand me...). With an excellent comfortable bed in a spacious room. With good cosmetics in the bathroom. We did not expect this from a chain hotel and for such a price.
I loved the old school charm and elegance with modern commodities. The hotel kept alot of the original Era and history of the building intact. Made for an interesting stay. Staff was friendly and inviting. Close to historical downtown Stauton which is worth the venture.
The Sleep Inn near Staunton, VA is located just off exit 222 on I-81. The facility looks very new. Its staff, facilities, and rooms are beyond what I expected for $99 + tax per night. The choices for the included breakfast were superb.
very nice hotel, located in a parc, very closed to downtown. completely refurbished, with all required confort. Far above usual US standard hotels.
Small sort of veranda for breakfast ( very good) with very kind and helpful staff.
The hotel is on a main road so it is easy to find but there is no noise from the road once you are in the hotel. Ample parking. Friendly staff. A good hotel to stay at while visiting the area. I would stay again.
this is no 5 star hotel, but is very good value for the money, its a lovely town with some brewries close by , we stayed there one night arv 19:00 and dprt 09:30am and it ok for us
Nice breakfast offering; very clever pancakes and cereal choices . Very clever and smart soap dispensers! “Not radio soap” is the perfect dispenser for motels and hotels
