Others can talk about the White Temple, Blue Temple etc etc I simply want to say that Chiang Rai offers a hugely different perspective to that of any other Thailand city ... and it's MORE than worth your while to visit. The surrounding mountains and various attractions there are multitudinous. The temples are just as impressive (for Buddhists and non-Buddhist alike) as in Chiang Mai and in fact Chiang Rai predates Chiang Mai as the famous King Mengai's capital city for his Lanna Kingdom.
The Lanna culture is unique in all of Southeast Asia and Chiang Rai is really still the epicentre of Lanna and all its aspects. If you are looking for a truly cultural and spectacular holiday experience then Chiang Rai is one place that YOU SHOULD NOT MISS.
So do yourself a favour and get yourself up to Chiang Rai ... in the Lanna lands of clouds and smiles!

Visited the Balloon Fiesta in Singha Park.
Visited the Balloon Fiesta in Singha Park. Plenty to see and do, we'll probably do it again next year.
I was lucky enough to visit the White Temple during Covid, and although it wasn't possible to go inside it was lovely to be able to see it without the crowds. Having just driven past this time I wasn't sure it would be worth the wait in the queue to go inside.

Chiang Rai is a nice place with friendly people, which can meet the needs/expectations of different people with varied tastes. It is not very touristy, so much more natural. Rent a car and it is easy to get about with Google Maps. Enjoy the natural environment, the food and fruits, and various attractions.

I loved white temple, there are also some nice restaurants in the city and great night market, but the air in the city is terribly polluted, it is difficult to breathe, also the cithy itself is quite ugly in my opinion and the climate is difficult as it is hot during the day and very cold during the night.

Laid back quiet town.
Laid back quiet town. Seems to have a number of live music venues and also vegetarian restaurants or options. Stunning Wats as always, but particularly interesting ones with history of creation of Chiang Rai, as well as discovery of the Emerald Buddha. Locals are friendly and helpful.

Nakarj Princess Hotel - a must stay
Great walking street/night market
The Nak Nakara is a nice hotel, located about 10 minute walk from the center of town. Much closer to the Saturday night market, just around the corner 😊
The hotel has a traditional Thai feel. Simply decorated.
The pool area is nice with a reasonable amount of sun and shade.
There was a fridge in the lobby area that had an unlimited supply of complimentary water, fruit and also rice cracker snacks.
They serve nice food and drinks at the pool bar, but there is a great restaurant next door selling a larger menu selection at better prices.
We had a great stay, the rooms are spacious, nicely designed and very clean. The whole atmosphere was lovely, especially the staff was very welcoming and friendly. We slept so well in those beds, that we missed the breakfast time by accident but they let us have some anyway, thank you for that 🙏 Gym and pool also great. We would come here any time, if we’re in Chiangrai again. Night Bazar, stores and town center just 10 minute walk away, tours with pick-up from the hotel possible, will be organized at front desk.
We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel has perfect location right in the centre of Chiang Rai which is great as a starting point for exploring all the highlights of this town. The room was spacious with balcony, bathroom was clean and bed was comfortable. Also loved the swimming pool that was great after exploring in a hot weather. Check-in and check-out were super fast and breakfast was very tasty with many options. I would definitely stay here again!
The Courtyard Chiang Rai is a real gem. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful the place was. It was a great design with about 10 rooms. Boutique hotel style... which we both loved. The breakfast was well presented and tasty. We stayed in the end room on the ground floor. Thought the separated shower room was brilliant!!! The room was clean and comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay here.
Clean big room. Everything was really well maintained. The staff is very helpful with excellent spoken english. They could arrange all the taxis/cars/trips for us. The swimming pool was a nice plus when coming back from day long visits under the very hot Songkran weather.
Finally, the location of the hotel was excellent, near the city center.
This was out third visit to this hotel and we came with a family group of 9 for 5 days.
It is a magic place and the magic still exists. The location on the river is the main focus and the landscaping is brilliant. It is a large hotel but never feels it. The streets behind have a village feel and are well away from the chaos of downtown.
The hotel itself and grounds, pool etc are excellent
Only three years old
Excellent location near city centre and next to the river
Brilliant landscaping.... Jamie Duri would be proud
This hotel has the potential to compete with Riveria
But needs to put serious attention to the bedding and Breakfast provided
Excellent location, the staff is amazing and very helpful, the room, although basic, is perfect for the money you pay, and the garden area is beautiful. Upon request, they already had a scooter for us which made it easier and cheaper to move around Chiang Rai.
Posh luxury themed but reasonably priced hotel at a very good location in central Chiang Rai. Staff was very nice and the rooms looked great, the decoration of the building was very cool.
Beds were very comfortable and the area is very quiet and peaceful.
Really nice staff and good of you wanna escape the city and have a more calm stay in nature. It is a really beautiful hotel area with lots of nature and green. The pool area is perfect for relaxing. Breakfast is very good as well
The location was really nice because you could walk to the Blue Temple. The hotel could benefit from a bit of renovations but it is still a nice hotel to stay in Chiang Rai. The food of the hotel restaurant was AMAZING
It's just fantastic, friendly place with best location.Better than 5 stars hotel. Big Thank you to Matt he is so kind and helpful. Perfect for long and short stay.
