Ruins is one of the best experiences I have ever had. The staff is very nice. The food, the rooms are amazing. I invite all local and foreign people to come here and have fun. Located outside the city, it is a quiet and pleasant place to stay. In all respects, Ruins is a beautiful hotel located in Polonnaruwa. I am thankful to all the employees including the management for helping to make my holiday beautiful.

The site seeing of historical places were the best.
The site seeing of historical places were the best. Most of the time we ate at the hotel and visited some locals and shared a meal with them. We hired a vehicle during the tour, This gave us the flexibility to get around. Net time I'll try to get there in the cooler months, mid December.

Lot of ancient locations and relics.
Lot of ancient locations and relics. Can gain much information about historical Polonnaruwa era of Sri Lanka. Spread is in close vicinity and can cover all areas even without a travel guide. My favourite places were Parakrama Samudraya, museum, King Parakramabahu's castle and office, Gal Viharaya, Thiwanka Pilima geya, Vatadage, Hetadage and Sathmahal Prasadaya.
There are places to eat in Polonnaruwa new town (Very close by). We dined at NS Tomatoes where the service was good.

It's worth making the effort to see the far northern and far southern area too.... and don't forget to check out the back roads in the quadrangle group. The site is full of tourists, but almost nobody at the above mentioned places.

Polonnaruwa has impressive archeological and historic areas...
Polonnaruwa has impressive archeological and historic areas which are in good conditions despite of the years. The Minneriya National Park, the Dambulla cave temple and the Sigiriya Rock are also near and it makes Polonnaruwa a perfect base to visit all of them. We would strongly recommend to others.

We stayed about 14km outside polonnaruwa on lake giritale.
We stayed about 14km outside polonnaruwa on lake giritale. We got a tuk tuk into town (1500 rupees) and hired bikes for the day (1000 rupees each). We found a cycle route online and followed that, which took us to all the main sites. It was hot but we had a great time. Stop for a drink at the EKO hotel on the lake- a great spot!
We had a very nice stay here. We appreciate the helpfulness of the hosts who arranged bikes for us and found three for our children. They gave good advice about visiting Polonnaruwa and were friendly and helpful. They helped us arrange transportation to our next stop. The rooms were comfortable and clean and we had everything we needed. Having AC and a fan was nice. We enjoyed the breakfast and ordered dinner one night which was very tasty. There were lots of plants and ponds on the property which made a beautiful setting.
I had wonderful time hear for 3 days, regret I did not book longer, but had to move on. It is a hotel with 13 rooms, but it feels more like a homestay! Everyone , from the owner and his family to the staff were so friendly and helpful beyond expectations. Amazing hospitality. A place you want to go back to. Everyone seems to enjoy their work. The pools are great, taking great care of . Very clean. Thank you for a wonderful stay an help with renting bikes and bus transport. Hope to see you again😊
This is a delightful place to stay. So many good aspects to consider: friendly and kind staff, delicious meals, quiet location not far from the sightseeing, ability to arrange excursions and onward journey, wildlife on property: monkeys, deer, birds…, laundry service, ability to call in craftsmen to display their wares. And the meals…they are soooo good. And..suggest you ask your host any questions you can think of about Sri Lanka…you will learn a lot from his straightforward answers.
Amazing staff, so kind thoughtful and caring. I was treated like a princess. Nothing was too much trouble. Manager Kumara was wonderful. Wild life everywhere. Surrounded by a lake. Elephants were amazing to see up close. Lovely rooms, very big. Best shower I have ever had in an Asian hotel. Very clean. Lovely food. Room service excellent. Staff super helpful. Child friendly. Host weddings which are beautiful to watch. Will be back next year for sure .
The hotel is a nice mix of old and new, we loved the victorian style and everything looked so elegant, also everything worked well, there was A/C, a plug right next to the night stand. It was such a beautiful and peaceful place. Food was fantastic, hotel staff very friendly. I loved the fact that they had refillable containers for shampoo and conditioner. The location is perfect if you want to go to the ancient city.
The hotel has an excellent location and staff, an amazing rice field in front of our room, and the hotel look awesome everything is nature friendly. Just 10min away from the ancient city.
The Owner takes care of everything in the hotel and serves the food which is one of the best I’ve eaten in Sri Lanka, they prepared so yummy Srilankan rice and curry and the owner solve any problem, many thanks to him and his team
The family was wonderful. They served me a welcome tea and were not too shy to talk to me. They gave me tips and showed me the area around.
The breakfast was good and the dinner even better. Traditional Sri Lankan food. :)
The location is perfekt. Near the lake so you can make a walk watching the sundown. The Museum is only 5 minutes from the hotel.
It felt nearly like home in Thisal Guest House.
it was a few minutes drive from polonnaruwa railway station. Owner of the property was very friendly. Sri lankan breakfirst with rice, coconut sambol, Dhal curry and fried egg was good meal to start the day. The cost is really lesser and satisfied with the service level for that much of amount spent. You can't expect air conditioning and hot water for that price range.
Our stay here was lovely - what a beautiful location! The staff were incredible and so friendly, Sampath was so amazing as were all the other staff whose names we didn't write down! The rooms are lovely, as is the pool and outside areas. We rented bikes from the hotel and one of us had a really lovely massage. The buffet dinner is also great, with a fab selection!
Absolutely amazing hotel, very clean and spacious rooms, perfect location (5 mins from ticket office, 15 from polonnaruwa sacred city entrance), friendly stuff and hotel owner. Excellent breakfast, very tasty. I wish you all the best in the future! Will choose this hotel again, when I come back to this city
A beautiful clean little guest house tucked away in rural Polonnaruwa. The family who runs it is absolutely lovely. Made a great Sri Lankan breakfast and during my visit , suggested a festival to go to for Vessak that turned out to be beyond my expectations.
A beautiful place in a very quiet location in an urban environment. We had all the amenities we needed. Very close to Polonnaruwa city and places to visit in Polonnaruwa. This is a perfect place for someone who wants to spend a few days relaxing.
The hotel is close to Ancient City, only 10 minutes walk. Hosts are hospitable people and can help with everything. They also can give bicycles and umbrellas. Room was clean with 2 big beds, no problems with a hot water.
Very nice hotel in a beautiful place. The rooms are cleans and nice. The food is very good. The family staff is so friendly and helpful. I recommend this place. You can relax in the beautiful swimming pool !
Excellent location and stuff , manager takes care of everything in hotel, serves the food which is one of best I’ve eaten in Sri Lanka and solves any problem,
many thanks to him and his team.
