This was a great stopping point after driving the eastern Fjords on a Sunday. They had a couple places that were open where we could eat, get gas and groceries. This town was a nice place to stay after driving through many of the lovely villages along the coast and before heading to Husavik. You're also close to Hengifoss and not far from Studlagil Canyon, though we only drove halfway down the road before we gt nervous with the icy road right on the side of a cliff.

We loved the tourist info center there along the lake with the Gunnar Gunnerson museum and restaurant. We had a great buffet meal there. We enjoyed the tourist rest area because the lady there spent time with us as we looked around at the exhibits. It was an unexpected surprise.

Good hotel overall.
Good hotel overall.
Locally, we went to Vik Baths, very good experience.
On our 10 day driving the Ring Road, we had already visited the Blue Lagoon. Vik Baths was an alternative to the Blue Lagoon, well worth visiting.

Small town, cannot say too much about it.
Small town, cannot say too much about it. We had here a stop and stayed at the Ormurrinn Cottages.
Egilsstadir has everything you need to fill up for your road trip: supermarket & gas station ;-)

Practical location. A lot of to explore around the town.
Practical location. A lot of to explore around the town. We were on a short travel and the weather was fine, so we didn't use a lot of services there. We are planning an other travel there because there are so much to do 😀
Very central location. Parking is not always available. Paid parking at $3 / hour can be found around the hotel area. P1, P2&P3 parking is free from 6 pm to 9am in Reykjavik. The hotel is modern and I loved the art. Beautiful spa with steam room, dressing room, refreshment station, and spa pool. The room was a deluxe double and beautiful with plenty of space and a big lounger couch. Coffee Station was welcome. Note that the bar fridge is on the small side. Breakfast was very good with a wide selection.
The house is right outside the town of Egilsstadir, very easy to find.
We were met by a very friendly owner and his two lovely dogs. He was extremely helpful and the house was truly a gem!
Decorated with old-style furniture, but very cosy, clean and it has a hot tub outside with an amazing view! We wish we could have stayed longer and can definitely recommend it for anyone wanting to spend time at East Iceland!
The location is 5-6 min driving to Egilsstadir. The room was pretty big & beds were comfy. The shower was ok. The kitchen area is well equipped with 2 big fridges. I wish we planned to stay there one more night. There is a lot to discover close to Egilsstadir that we didn't have time. If you're at Egilsstadir; go to Vok Baths. Highly recommended.
Beautiful hotel that feels like it's in the middle of nowhere, with lovely rooms and a cosy restaurant area. The hot tubs overlooking the lake are great. The food was very good both at dinner and breakfast (we loved the happy marriage cake - the best we had in Iceland - and the homemade blueberry jam!)
The Hotel Manager and her family were great, we enjoyed chatting about life in iceland and my son loved playing and exploring the area with the kids. The hotel was clean and tidy and breakfast was a lovely mix of meats, cheeses, pancakes, cereals and more.
This is a hostel not an hotel and is a quality stay for what it is. The room was basic but clean and comfortable. Showers and toilets were close to the rooms and were sufficient in number. The kitchen was was good too. Happy hour from 3 til 7 a bonus.
We liked our room and found it comfy and spacious enough. The hotel is very clean and has a nice lobby with lots of space. The front desk staff/concierge was especially friendly and helpful. Overall it was a great stay and I would stay here again.
Very comfortable, warm and clean room with well equipped kitchen and good bathroom
Nice interior: authentic, cosy, vintage
Very nice, hospitable and communicative host
Beautiful location with view on the river, close to Egilsstadir
A really good choice in Egilsstadir. Coming from the US, nothing in Iceland can be categorized as a good value but relatively it was a good size room with nice views, and great supportive staff.
We needed a place with a little more than just a plane hotel room. Having a little kitchen was nice and it was very well appointed with all the basic appliances and utensils.
There was a black cat at the front door to greet us. His bowls were on the porch so he is a hotel cat. Looked just like our cat back home. Remember that more than anything.
