I visited with my young grandchildren to attend the Wigtonshire Book Festival which was a great success, as was the accommodation.
However on the Sunday evening, after the Book Festival, There was nowhere suitable available in Dumfries to take three children for an evening meal before travelling home to Stirling. Quite disappointing.

Dumfries is a mecca for all things Rabbie Burns; it boasts the site of his original grave, a Burns museum, the house where he last resided, his local pub and more besides. The people of Dumfries are exceptionally friendly and the town is steeped in history. The River Nith provides a romantic backdrop which is very atmospheric at night. Dumfries is easily accessible by road and rail and easy to get around. There are some very characterful places to visit and with more visitors, the variety of places to eat and drink will surely increase.

A town that is down on its luck but a lot going on to improve it at the moment. And it's a stronghold of Robert Burns history as well as being handy for some excellent countryside, coast, hills, etc. Great mountain-biking trails. A couple of really good places to eat (check out something fine at the Globe Inn).

The area is convenient to a beautiful castle ruin and nice birdwatching reserves on the River Nith. There were some restaurants in the town, but we had delicious dinner at the Friars Carse which is also open to non- hotel guests for dinner.
Breakfast was fantastic starting with cereals and juice, plenty of fresh fruit , toast, hot coffee and a full Scottish breakfast, very tasty. Location was good too, just across the road from the railway station and a ten minute walk to the town centre . The hotel was lovely as was the room, very clean and comfortable. Hotel owners very friendly and always at hand for anything we needed on our stay. Lovely hotel.
We booked the Woodland House as it was ideally located for a mini-break in Dumfries and Galloway - we're glad we did! From arrival to departure we were treated like family and to say the dinner choices and quality were exceptional value for money is an understatement. A great breakfast started off our days too. I would certainly not hesitate to book again at the Woodland House Hotel!
Arrived after having been at work earlier that day, followed by longish train journey from Manchester, so great to get off the train at Dumfries, cross a road and arrive at hotel in less than a minute. Easy to check in and out. Room in good location within hotel. Comfortable room, provision of tea/coffee, plenty of sockets to charge phone. Good quality shower and bathroom.
Terrific value for money. Full studio apartment (living room, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom with TV and central heating. Tea, coffee, milk, butter, bread and eggs provided for breakfast. Clean and well presented. Nice location near town centre and river. Would definitely return if visiting Dumfries again.
A hotel with better amenities than most accommodation in Dumfries. It's great to have an extra heater in the room. It was a comfortable and enjoyable experience. Having a bar in the lobby of the hotel is also a very good opportunity. You can sip your drink in front of the fireplace.
Comfortable stay, friendly staff, breakfast was a short walk for cooked at sister hotel, or continental available at Stewart hall. Close to town centre. Car parking available. Family Room was spacious and perfect for us with 2 small children. Definitely will stay again!
The room was amazing and so big, the bed was massive. The hotel was right in the middle of town and close to all amenities.
Great place a bass to travel around &Dumfries and Galloway.
Will definitely visit again.
The owner was such helpful and nice chap.
The location is great. You can walk to most of the sites in Dumfries. Jackie is a wonderful hostess willing to chat and answer any questions about the area. Everything was immaculate and breakfast was well prepared and delicious - even the haggis.
Great stay. The owner was very helpful and communicative and made the check in process easy. The flat was a lovely, peaceful space with all the facilities we needed. Perfect for our stay in Dumfries whilst visiting family. Would recommend!
Nice clean spacious room with a four poster bed delicious breakfast and very friendly staff very close to Dumfries and other parts of Dumfries and Galloway easily accessible public also very clean plenty of free parking
We stayed in one of the cottages and it was wonderful. Spacious, warm and well equipped. Friendly and polite staff too in the main hotel areas. Dog friendly and catered for gluten free too. Brilliant.
Lovely guest house and very friendly staff! Good location, very walkable to anything in and around the Dumfries town center. Breakfast was good. Rooms warm, a nice respite from the frost outside!
Lovely countryside location, yet close to Dumfries. We visited the area to visit Caerlaverloch Castle and this place proved perfect for that outing, being only a 20 minute drive away.
The hotel's location is good, close to the town centre and bars, but in a quiet road. Parking is good, and the welcome is very warm. The breakfast was good.
