Puerto montt is a beatifull city and small but it works as a harbor and from here you can visit so many interesting areas.
overall the region is like a 7 days trip and even 2 weeks if you want to see all.

the city is a good base or starting point to explore the region. The city itself is unremarkable in my view but is close to a lot of amazing places: Peulla, Petrohue, Cochamo, Chiloe island, Puerto Varas, Vicente Perez national park, Puerto Varas, Puerto Octay...
The city center can be unsafe at night. I recommend move only with day light or ask for a taxi in your hotel.

The best place to stay in that area is Puerto Varas.
The best place to stay in that area is Puerto Varas. All the excursions will pick you up there. Also, get on a transfer taxi ( shared mini- bus) from and to Puerto Varas - just outside the Puerto Montt airport. Will drop and pick you at your hotel. Also, you can get on a local bus in Puerto Varas by yourself to visit the Petrohue Waterfalls and then get back on the same bus to go to Lake Todos os Santos for a half hour navigation. It is fun to do what locals do. In Puero Varas I recommend Druma restaurant. Lively, locals and soft sound track. Also, they have gluten free food.

Puerto Montt is a good opportunity to see a mid-size Chilean city unspoiled and unvarnished by tourism. However, if you are not into a gritty city full of real locals don’t brother. We had a fantastic dinner at Club Aleman.

This place is full of possibilities (trips etc.)
This place is full of possibilities (trips etc.) Problem is,that everything is completely booked +there are no cars for rental. So it's very complicated to do anything (even to get into the restaurant you have to wait a que for quite a long time), everywhere is checking of everything (masks+ temperature+ vaccination) and it's time consuming.

Puerto Montt has a nice beach area and you can get day tours from there; however, I would recommend staying in Puerto Varas instead. It's a more charming town set up better for tourists. You can get the same day tours from there. It's about a 25 minute bus ride from Puerto Montt. We enjoyed eating above the bus station and Hotel Ibis that has a food court and overlooks the harbor.
The best day tour was Volcano Osorno including the waterfall Pueyhuehue.
Andrea and Estefan were wonderful hosts! They took our reservation with very short notice and greeted us with hugs hot tea and wonderful conversation. They were an amazing help with providing us information on travel in Chile and booking our Ferry down south. Would definitely stay there again, and hope to return someday.
The staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed using the pool and the sauna. We stayed here the night before catching the ferry to puerto natales so the location was ideal as the hotel facilitated the checkin. We had dinner in the hotel and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The room had a fantastic view!
Had single rooms too so my friend could be comfortable while I stayed in a dorm. Good location in Puerto Montt. Breakfast is basic toast and tea but hits the spot. Stayed here a night after a week in Valdivia before going deeper into Patagonia. Lockers were good sized.
It’s a classic cheap chain hotel. The staff were lovely but rooms basic. Clean though. It is redeemed by being right on top of the bus station. So if you are just passing through Puerto Montt it’s perfect as there are restaurants and stuff close by too.
Small room close to the airport, which makes it easier if you have an early flight. Stephanie did pick us up at the airport and prepared a wonderful breakfast for us. The living room is really cozy. If you like dogs & cats, you will like this place.
The staff were really welcoming and had great tips or starting our trip in Chile. Helped us with all we've asked. Breakfast was great, better than most places in Chile. The hotel itself felt safe. The room had aircondition and beds were comfortable.
Great host Marcos, lovely atmosphere, neat clean secure place, great breakfast. Great to have use of the breakfast room, fridge and kitchen for a cup of tea or simple meals. Great to have secure parking. Great place to stay in Puerto Montt
The hotel offers a super comfortable bed and nice breakfast, ideal in the context of exploring the surroundings. They also had a fitness room with a good threadmill, helpful staff and central location.
Great view from the rooms. Clean and stylish as always. Location is great especially for shopping (the hotel in the biggest shopping mall around) and walking down the shore.
The staff were helpful and kind. Location was pretty good, 30min from airport. Lots of local restaurants and walking areas. But really not much else to do here.
