Lovely town, friendly people. Nice cafes and bars. Interesting places in the surrounding areas. We visited Divjaka National Park, a must see and only an hour drive away. Try and eat local dishes, delicious.

Beautiful rooms, newly renovated. Large balcony looking on stunning gardens. Great location, extremely friendly staff & English speaking. Certainty value for money & a beautiful Albanian breakfast. Loved our stay here.

Pleasant pedestrian area with lots of cafes and shops.
Pleasant pedestrian area with lots of cafes and shops. Interesting Old town in Fortress. Restaurant Taverna Kala in the fortress has great selection of traditional foods including Elbasan sepecialty Tava Kosi with reasonable prices. Great atmosphere just inside the fortress gate with tables made from old Singer sewing machine tables. Lots of shopping around the city. Several nice parks Weekend train to Durres. Byses from Ohrid, N. Macedonia, Tirana, Vlore, and more, though there isn't a central bus station.

We found Elbasan to be one of the prettiest districts in...
We found Elbasan to be one of the prettiest districts in Albania. The rivers and the view of the snowy mountains were absolutely amazing - and like any other place in Albania - people are nice and the food is great. We were hiking to the Sotira waterfalls and enjoyed it very much (though we couldn't get to the waterfalls themselves - the last 30 meters). We would love to come back.

Wonderful area, full with natural sights. Recommended Holta Canyon, take care of its cleanliness! Unfortunately there is a lot of rubbish in the country, and drive cautiously in the albanian traffic!

This is a major town on one of the few east-west roads in...
This is a major town on one of the few east-west roads in Albania. It's industrialized and there is a lot of partial construction or abandoned buildings. It has a litter problem but if you stick to the center of town it's not a problem. There is enough to keep you busy for a day if you like visiting museums or ruins. The old castle is a must and allow time to sit in the beautiful grounds and have a long drink. The town inside the castle is worth exploring as is the ethnographic museum and the ruins of the basillica.
