The walled town of Alghero on Sardinia’s west coast has an altogether more down-to-earth vibe than the more exclusive Emerald Coast on the opposite side of the island. In fact, it feels more Catalan than Italian.
The seafront walls and defensive towers surrounding the historic center were actually built by the Catalans in the 16th century, and many residents still speak a dialect from that era. However, Sardinia has been inhabited since prehistoric times, and the Nuraghe di Palmavera stone dwellings outside the town are evidence of this. Another nuraghic site is Anghelu Ruju, near Alghero Fertilia Airport.
South of the airport is sandy Maria Pia Beach which continues all the way to Alghero harbor and is lined with beachfront hotels, bars and restaurants offering tasty seafood, including local lobster. Boat trips leave the harbor to Neptune’s Grotto along the coast. Next door is Nereo Cave, supposedly the largest Mediterranean sea cave and a popular diving spot.
Also worth visiting are the pedestrian streets of the old town, packed with shops and sidewalk cafés. Also here are the 16th-century Palazzo d’Albis and the cathedral with its mixed architectural styles.
The Alghero accommodations on Booking.com include 5-star hotels with pools, cheap B&Bs and apartments with parking.

Lovely, charming, walkable little city that makes you feel like you're on holiday but it doesn't feel like a tourist toytown. We were there in mid October so it may well be much busier in the summer, but it was not at all crowded and was one of loveliest holidays we've had. Good food, everything is walkable, excellent city and a boat trip to the grottos.

Litter appalling.
Litter appalling. Waste bins not emptied and rubbish out on streets for days. Foothpaths appalling and dangerous especially for older people.
Vsited Maria Pia beach most days by bus. AF bus service quick but did not seem to stick to a timetable especially on Sundays.
Great places for eating. Hotel staff inHot la Magherita were fantastic and recommended many places to eat and very helpful with queries we had.

Alghero is a beautiful city to visit with plenty of beach's to choose from. Load of restaurants and bars. Depending on the time of season you pick it can be busy and crowded or it can be peaceful and relaxing in late September early October.

What an alluring old-world city with some of the best restaurants and cafés in the world. Our meal at Mabrouk was unforgettable, as was watching the sunset at Ristorante Angedras while sipping limoncello spritzes and waiting for Mabrouk to open. We will definitely stay longer the next time.

Such a beautiful city with someting for everyone - history, beaches, boat trips, shopping, food & drink and sun! As the old city is cobble stoned it can be tricky for someone with reduced mobility or an impairment but I would not rule this city out becasue of this. It is a wonderful historical and beautiful place to visit. Stunning sun sets also with plenty of places to enjoy the view.
We were surrounded by garden with olive trees and enjoyed beautiful views of the sea and Alghero. The house is decorated with traditional Sardinia items and it adds to the feeling of being on vacation. There is so many little details that will make you feel good. Paola is the best host ever. She helped us with anything we needed. She gave us travel tips, booked a table for us, helped us to get our tests, and was available 24/7. She made us feel welcome and valued. I would definitely recommend this property as we had an amazing time there!
I loved this hotel and wished I could have stayed longer, (I only stayed 2-nights). I had a room with a balcony and beautiful view of the pool. The restuarant had an awesome breakfast, a big buffet. There was also a snack bar near the pool. The hotel has a small store on site for food and other items. The hotel is located across the street from the beach, which was great for swimming and walking. The hotel is also close to many restaurants. The hotel is a short 10-minute taxi ride to the Alghero airport.
The apartment is very cosy and intimate, like a home away from home, very clean and equiped with anything we needed, perfect for spending a great vacation, just in the lovely old town, a walking distance away from the sea, with many restaurants and ice cream places close.
Our host, Manuela, was just lovely, available, we had great communication with her, she recommended some great restaurants and helped us with what we needed.
We will definitely stay here again when we come back to Sardinia 😊
Everything from the location to the facilities were exceptional, as well as the owner who was very helpful throughout our stay and helped us with a bunch of useful tips and information. We will definitely come back when we're in Alghero again. Big rooms with all the amenities and a huge outdoor terrace for watching the sunset and having drinks before going out. Would recommend to anyone looking for a clean and relaxing accommodation to compliment their sardinian vacation👍👍👍
This place is in a rather quiet residential area, but still within walking distance from the old town. There are also some supermarkets less than 200m away.
This is not a hotel, so power is not turned off when you leave the room. Not sure why people still put up with this nonsense anyway.
In order to remind you that Sardinia is rather mountainous, the rooms are on the 3rd floor.
Stayed at Quarte Sayal with my family of five, we booked the Corallo. Room was very spacious, clean, and with AC. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Location is right on the beach along a lively nightly strip with many restaurants and bars.
Also the restaurant at Quarte Sayal is fantastic and would recommend that you eat there at least once.
Germano were one of the best host we got. We had many advices about tourism in the city and around. He gave us a tip for eat (for those who's reading this: go to focacceria Melese). We event show us where we should go in Sardinia.
The breakfast was good too! A real coffee makes everything.
Thanks for everything!
Wonderful, welcoming staff. Great location and very walkable to the historic centre. Our room was spacious, the delicious breakfast was very ample and we could not have asked for more.
We are looking forward to going back to charming Alghero soon, and really hoping to be able to stay at Hotel Domomea again.
Don't hesitate to stay here! Without doubt the BEST room we had on our 14 days trip around Sardinia, and at the same time the cheapest! The room is completely new with high quality materials and super clean. The matress is extremely comfortable and the sheets are soft. Highly recommend!!
Location just on a first line to the sea and walking distance to Alghero city center. Apartment is not very spacious, but very comfortable. Equipped with everything needed to spend there sardinian holidays. Host Luisa is very welcoming and provided all the needed information and support.
The best and cleanest apartment in Alghero. After our flight was canceled we got lucky to rent this apartment with very nice Seaview, nice decorated and equiped with everything you need to feel like home. For real, the apartment looks much pretty than the photos.
It was a lovely clean property within walking distance of the best of Alghero. The breakfast was good. The air con was excellent. The bathroom facilities (shared) were perfect. The host was a most welcoming and passionate about the beauty of Sardinia
We liked our large, well appointed room and bathroom and the property’s easy walking distance to the historic center of Alghero. The adjacent coffee bar (associated with the hotel) provided a good continental breakfast and friendly service.
The apartment location was right in Alghero town centre. Anything we needed was close to us, such as shops, restaurants, markets, information centre, and so on. The owner was superb, very welcoming, and a very gentle person.
The staff was super nice to us, we arrived at Sardinia quite late and also the way to Alghero was quite long, but the man who sublet us the room waited for us till we got to the hotel and we are very grateful for that ❤
This hotel was perfect location to the beach, town & supermarkets. The best part of this hotel was the cleaner Maria who cleaned our room to be spotless and was so friendly & helpful, we give Maria a 5* review! :)
Great location for nice 2 bedroom apartment that is walking distance to Old Town Alghero. Good WiFi, a washing machine, and a grocery store across the street, makes this stay perfect!
Easy self-check in with clear instructions. Very good location close to centre, but easy parking. Large room with balcony and best B&B breakfast we had in Sardinia.
The breakfast was very good, above average for other places where we have stayed in Alghero. Parking can be found on the street or private in hotel garage.
