Stonehouse Court Hotel - A Bespoke Hotel, hotel in Stroud

This 17th-century Manor House is in stunning grounds overlooking Stroud Water Canal and the hills of the Stroud Valley. It has an award-winning restaurant, and routes for cycling and walking.

Wonderful, stylish blend of old and modern furnishing and fixtures in the reception/bar area. Great drink menu available and a nice surprise to find the bar open soon after we arrived so a couple of drinks before we took the short walk to the restaurant we'd booked for our evening meal. Room was comfortable with lovely views out across the lawn to the canal and Cotswold hills beyond. Breakfast was lovely and filling, and varied, though having just come back from Amsterdam, it was missing some of the broader continental options I'd got used to.

Stroud is quite a big town in Gloucestershire and, as such, it has all of the shops and amenities one would expect. Plus, with a taxi rank, train station and frequent bus services to/from Cheltenham and Gloucester, among other places, the town is well connected. I would recommend it as a base from which to explore Gloucestershire.

Vibrant, friendly and historic town full of stylish places to eat and drink, unique gift shops surrounded by beautiful countryside. Local bus service was also very reliable on the Saturday ( well - better than my own at home anyway!). Public toilets in the town were clean and convenient. I was on my own but felt safe even at nighttime. Would recommend the indoor market, Stroud Bookshops, as well as Cornflower and Calico for kitchenware gifts. The Coffee House and Curio Lounge Cafe Bar were great places to visit as well.

Amberley Inn was in a village outside Stroud, the area was very picturesque and plenty to do in the area. The Aboretum at Batsford was exceptional with lovely autumn colour and the Cotswold Villages are a delight.

Stroud is only 2 miles from the home of my childhood & youth 58-74 It the focal point of 5 Valleys all beautiful every season. The whole area is protected, as are the Cotswolds and its a must stay. Well connected by the train and buses with a labyrinth of country lanes and greenery for car travellers. A canal and lots of old industrial history, once a main centre of the SW England WOOL TRADE, it remains rich with villages pubs restaurants, hill top views and lowland vales, many clear for 20 to 30 miles 360 degrees, a paradise to behold

This is a lovely place to visit mainly because of the friendliness of the locals. Everyone I met was helpful and clearly very proud of their town. Loads of independent cafes and coffee houses in the town centre. For a special treat, The Corner House is a great place for a lunch or evening meal. Note that this town sits in a valley surrounded by a number of picturesque but steep hills, so if you are walking out and about, be ready for a climb. Terrific scenery though, so worth it. I was particularly impressed by the number of independent shops of all kinds, especially those selling local artisans' wares. A great centre for all kinds of crafts.

Food great. Staff all very personable and supportive. Great dogs are allowed there, loads of space for them to run outside. And they were certainly no problem in the hotel. Great surroundings, good like I said, quiet, lovely soft beds. Who could ask for more. Wouldn’t hesitate to back anytime of the year. For got to say, lovely linen, loads of thick towels. View from window across the moors just lovely.

We really liked the apartment, it's very spacious, clean and well presented. Very quirky inside with lots of different levels and rooms, and the two full bathrooms (one with bath and one with shower) were very useful. The Old Fleece pub/restaurant next door, was fantastic. The food was wonderful and the staff so friendly. There are some lovely walks in the area.

The meals here were all very good. We were late arriving but there was still food available and we enjoyed a lovely roast and a fish meal. The following morning we had their breakfast which was cooked to order and set us up for the day. It was a one night stay but we would recommend the hotel and it was in a lovely area to explore. Hope to return.

Staff became friendlier! Arrived to no real welcome or help with suitcases. This would have been very helpful and other hotels we have stayed in always offer, and greet guests with proper hospitality. Liked the fact it was on the Common. Tables, unlike the food, were spaced well apart in times of Covid! Some nice artwork in communal areas.
