Set on slopes by Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a laidback and liveable city. The views of the lake and dramatic peaks of the Alps are simply stunning, especially from Sauvabelin Tower in the northern woods.
Surrounded by vineyards, this is an outdoor lifestyle city great for sports including sailing, cycling and hiking. In fact, many international sporting governing bodies and the International Olympic Committee are based here. There is also an excellent Olympic Museum. In winter, Lausanne skiing options include the Jura Mountains to the north-west, and the Valais canton south-west of the lake.
By the lake (Lac Léman in French) is the Ouchy port area, home to many of the Lausanne hotels and restaurants. To the north is the Flon district, known for its lively nightlife popular with students.
The cobbled Old Town – the Cité – is a Swiss Heritage Site on a hill at the city’s highest point. It houses the castle and Lausanne Museum, both watched over by the multi-spired Notre-Dame cathedral. At the foot of the hill are 3 squares with markets, one of which – Place Riponne – is on the Metro.
This is the world’s smallest city with a Metro, an indicator of the wonderfully efficient Swiss transport system, meaning that Geneva Airport (the closest to Lausanne) is easily reachable.

We really enjoyed visiting the old town starting from the Cathedral, which although its undergoing restoration you can still go inside. The walk from the cobbled streets outside the Cathedral down to the train station is worth it, but you'll need comfy shoes to navigate the steep descent to Lausanne Station. The lakeside is a must see including the Olympic museum.

Try to avoid staying over on Sunday.
Try to avoid staying over on Sunday. All the shops are closed after 6 pm to 6.30 pm from Monday to Saturday and close on Sunday. So we feel wasted 1 day on Lausanne as it is Sunday. We only can walk around visit Churches and window shops on Sunday.

Lausanne is a fantastic city.
Lausanne is a fantastic city. The lake is simply stunning and if you are a tourist I think staying by the lake is possibly better than being in the city as it is so beautiful and changes all the time. The city has some nice upmarket shops and some lovely restaurants. There is a great metro service to get you up and down the hill and most hotels give you a free pass for this. There are lots of young people in Lausanne and all the restaurants and bars are very busy. We visited Montreux by train and Gruyeres by bus and Evian les Bains across the lake by boat.

I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland.
I traveled to other places in France a Switzerland. The train station is just 3 stops away from the hotel. The hotel is just above the metro station. When you arrive using the metro, you must take the elevator to floor E1. The hotel is just in front of the elevators to the left. Very well located! In Lausanne, we enjoyed the lake walk, the Olympic museum, the Place du Palau, the wood stairs. Just walking the city is relaxing. The cafes, the restaurants and shops are first class. We stayed 12 days and 11 nights. We wanted to stay longer. We love Switzerland ❤️

We used Lausanne as a base to explore around the East Lake, something it is well suited for due to the good rail service and the easy access to boats at Ouchy. We didn't explore all of Lausanne by any means but the area from the studio towards the castle and the walk down to Ouchy were very pleasant. Lausanne is very hilly so use of the metro (M2 for us) was almost essential.

Lausanne was a very nice place for my first time alone.
Lausanne was a very nice place for my first time alone. The architecture is amazing. I really liked hearing the bell it was quite nice; it felt like going back in time. The food there was amazing and everyone is very helpful. So definitely go there for a vacation.
The changing views from our room added to the pleasure of our stay. The room (Junior Suite) was not exactly decorated in the latest fashion, but it was spacious and comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent - we are glad we chose it above options in the centre of the city. We had breakfast at the hotel - compared to offerings at more expensive hotels we stayed in in other parts of Switzerland it was very good and also good value for money. We especially enjoyed the big variety of fresh fruit every morning.
everything about the hotel is actually excellent
Reception is amazing
check in very fast and easy
room is very nice and clean I hardly left the room as it was very comfortable and relaxing
spa facility is amazing
staff are very helpful and friendly
location is not bad; be aware that it’s on a slope so going to the lake and back is tiring
internet is excellent
bed Lenin is clean and soft
bathroom Lenin is very fluffy and clean
Hotel is out of the city but very practical. We went by car, parked in the underground garage (discounted price) and used the free subway card to ride into the city. Subway station is underneath the parking (P+R Vennes), and in about 20' we were at Lausanne-Ouchy.
Entrance to the Aquarium just opposite the hotel reception.
Staff was friendly, rooms were modern and clean, breakfast had a fair variety of choices.
The location was great, nice to be by the water and away from the centre of Lausanne. However, the metro was around the corner from the hotel and was very easy to use. The hotel provided a free metro card for our stay. The pool was lovely. The room was spacious and from the outside a very beautiful hotel. There are plenty of eateries nearby. There is off-road parking if needed.
From the getgo i knew this was a nice hotel. The staff is very friendly and easygoing, for sure party people themselves. The room, though small, was very complete, to the extent of a rubber ducky in the shower. Complementairy gifts and coffee on the room. In short, everything you need to get ready for and recouperate from a good night out in lausanne.
Nice, cozy hotel. Comfortable room with all necessary things ( including electric cattle, ironing desk and iron, mini refrigerator etc). Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff, Switzerland style interior. Nice view at breakfast restaurant. Great location : 15 mins walking to the lake, 5 mins to SBBstation , 5 mins to metro .
Nice hotel in the city center of Lausanne, not too far from the shopping street and Place de la Palud, as well as a walking distance from the train station and subway. Very comfortable room, cozy bed, with all amenities present. Loved my stay over here! Definitely recommended!
Brand NEW hotel with clean, modern rooms. A great value. Excellent staff. Delicious buffet breakfast. They even gave us free public transportation passes to ride the bus, subway and train. The easiest way to enjoy Lausanne, without the hassle of driving or parking.
This is my favorite hotel in Lausanne. It is very simple, brand new, clean and spacious. Even the single rooms with single beds are very spacious. The breakfast buffet is very nice and the view from the breakfast area is simply amazing.
The hotel is nice enough, but very expensive for what you get. Almost €300 for a night without breakfast and a very average room - maybe it’s just because everything in Switzerland is expensive. nothing wrong, just feels more like €150.
The facility was clean and room was tidy, staff was friendly and helpful.
The system of getting the room key the thing called digisafe was really nice. We didnt spend much time to enter the hotel and it was secure.
Nice hotel in the center of Lausanne. The room is large and clean, the beds are comfortable, the breakfast is good.
The staff is polite, helping to resolve all issues.
The hotel is 5 minutes from the center.
Excellent location. Really convenient for the metro, short walk to the train station and some nice bars and cafes near by. Hotel staff were very friendly and room was clean.
Lovely staff, comfortable beds, a good breakfast, and an excellent location made Hotel du Port a great choice for our weekend in Lausanne. Would definitely stay here again.
We loved the helpful trilingual staff! Very cute room. Comfy beds, very nice tub. Very helpful staff getting us acclimated to Switzerland. Very kind and helpful.
Incredibly well kept hotel. Gorgeous property and view. Nice amenities such as heated pool, bikes and spa room. Room was lovely and had everything we needed.
