Several places worth a visit - Museum at the Battery Hill...

Several places worth a visit - Museum at the Battery Hill Mining Centre, unfortunately no underground tours on offer at present, Bill Allen Lookout, Tennant Creek Telegraph Station and Kunjara (aka The Pebbles). Tinggkarli (Lake Mary Ann) looked like a good spot for a picnic. We ate at Woks Up, but didn't enjoy the food, should have gone to Sporties Steak & Grill, as initially suggested by the motel receptionist.

    Rough little town.

Rough little town. When you check in to your accommodation and they say 'don't leave anything in your car', do as they say. All night I heard fights, arguments and gunshots (I assume hunting nearby. Would be worth finding accommodation in a tourist park or something. If you have your own van, etc. don't stay in Tennant Creek!

Had to travel through Tennant Creek enroute to Mt Isa.

Had to travel through Tennant Creek enroute to Mt Isa. Town needs cleaning up, bit intimidating walking down main street. Goldfields Motel is not attractive from outside but inside it is very clean and tidy. The area outside motel rooms are neat and tidy and the car park gates are locked at night. Good air conditioning, comfortable, clean bed and clean bathroom.

Great for a stop over on the road to bigger and better places. The Safari lodge was a beautiful oasis that outdid accommodation at a budget anywhere between Brisbane and Darwin. Ate a great dinner at the Memorial Club.

Tennant Creek is about midway between Darwin & Alice Springs...

Tennant Creek is about midway between Darwin & Alice Springs so is a logical overnight choice if you're doing this long trip. The town itself is quite small and feels a little unsafe at night, lots of people on the main street and hanging around the town's local pubs. The BP servo (cheapest fuel we found) at the northern end of town has good coffee and hot snacks, watch which entry you go in as there was congestion which seems to be the norm as they had a traffic guy on duty.
